IELTS Writing Task 2 (Essay)

Task 2 adalah esai argumentatif 250+ kata dalam 40 menit — bobotnya dua kali Task 1. Examiner menilai empat hal, dan dua di antaranya (Grammatical Range & Accuracy, Lexical Resource) adalah soal bahasa murni: seberapa beragam dan akurat kalimatmu.

Struktur esai 4 paragraf

Paragraf	Isi
1. Introduction	Parafrase isu + posisimu (thesis). 2–3 kalimat cukup.
2. Body 1	Argumen pertama: klaim → penjelasan → contoh.
3. Body 2	Argumen kedua (atau sisi lawan + bantahan, untuk soal discuss both views).
4. Conclusion	Rangkum posisi — tanpa argumen baru.

Struktur kalimat yang menaikkan band

Conditional 2 untuk usulan — If governments subsidized public transport, congestion would fall. → materi
Non-defining which untuk dampak — …renewable energy, which would also create jobs.
It is + pasif untuk klaim umum — It is often argued that…
Kontras Although/While — While technology connects people, it can also isolate them.
Concession + refute — Admittedly, X. However, Y outweighs it.

Contoh: band 6 vs band 8

Band ~6: Many people use cars. This makes pollution. The government must make rules.

Akurat tapi seluruhnya kalimat sederhana — range terbatas mengunci band di 6.

Band ~8: The growing reliance on private cars, which remains the main source of urban pollution, could be curbed if governments imposed stricter emission standards.

Relative clause + pasif + conditional 2 dalam satu kalimat yang tetap jernih — persis definisi band 8 di kriteria resmi.

Band ~6: In conclusion, I agree that education is important because it is very important for the future.

Pengulangan (important 2×) dan alasan sirkular.

Band ~8: In conclusion, investing in education yields long-term benefits that far outweigh its initial costs.

Nominalisasi (investing, benefits, costs) + relative clause — ringkas dan presisi.
